Renting an apartment or villa gives you the opportunity to interact with many Italians on a regular basis, albeit only for the duration of your rental, from the property owner to the owner of the panificio, where you can buy your daily bread and rolls, to the alimentaria, where you can shop for all sorts of groceries and fruits and vegetables. Our vineyard apartment rentals in Tuscany and our city apartment rentals in Florence, Venice, on the Amalfi coast, and in Syracuse, Sicily have been some of our most memorable, pleasurable, and satisfying travel experiences. Our collection of Recommended Apartments and Villas, where we have stayed or visited, is available for a nominal fee. These apartments and villas are in Florence, many towns in Tuscany, in Cinque Terre, in Venice, in Sicily, and on the Amalfi coast. Our collection of Favorite Apartments and Villas Websites, also available for a nominal fee, features apartments in Rome, Venice, Tuscany (including Florence), Umbria, the Amalfi coast, Cinque Terre (on the Mediterranean coast below Genoa), and other regions throughout the country. We have used many of these agencies for Florence, Tuscany, and Cinque Terre and we have received excellent service.
Our Tips for Selecting Your Ideal Apartment or Villa will help you be an informed consumer when you start your selection process. You will know the right questions to ask to obtain the amenities that are important to you. On the apartment and villa websites, you will likely find that the word villa is used to describe homes that range from modest and often handsome accommodations in former farm buildings to elegant, finely-furnished homes with formal gardens. If you are looking for a moderately-priced property, don’t rule out properties named villas. City apartments, especially those in the historic centers, are in buildings that were originally built anywhere from the 15th to the 20th century. These apartments can be filled with stunning architectural details, such as beautiful, large windows, intricate coffered ceilings, frescoes, and polished wooden doors, coupled with handsome modern amenities, including spacious tile or marble bathrooms. However, there may be characteristics of these apartments that you might not anticipate, such as reduced sunlight on lower-level floors and many stairs to climb. Most country properties are not accessible by public transportation, but there are notable exceptions, such as the Relais Villa L’Olmo. The Relais is on the edge of Impruneta, with a bus stop less than 200 yards away. Impruneta is a lovely 30-40 minute busride from the center of Florence. The Relais is the handsome country cousin of the elegant Palazzo Magnani Feroni in Florence, with its elegant suites and apartments. Copyright 2003-2010 by Suzy Kane & Associates.
