Accommodations are a key ingredient to a successful vacation. Italian cities offer a broad range of accommodations - from hotels of various sizes to B&Bs to apartments. The countryside and smaller towns and villages offer many options as well, from small hotels, often with their own restaurants, to apartments on wine estates, to entire villas.

These accommodations, whether in the city or the countryside, can range from simple and comfortable to pure luxury with marble bathrooms, frescoed ceilings, and fine antiques. The type and length of your vacation and your budget will help guide your choice of accommodations.

Some of the accommodations, including affittacamere and agriturism, may be unfamiliar to you. To help in your selection, we invite you to read the Hotels and B&Bs overview and the  Apartments and Villas overview where we describe some of these unique types of Italian accommodations.  If you prefer, you can go directly to our Recommendations.

Fine hotel accommodations with attractive bedrooms, firm mattresses, and private bathrooms are often available for $125 per night (or less) for two in the countryside.  Generally, city hotels are more expensive, and you can expect to pay approximately 25-50 percent more for comparable accommodations. Depending on the amenities and services you would like, you can spend considerably more. An apartment or cottage can be a more economical choice, especially if more than two are traveling together. A villa can be an ideal choice for a larger group. If you are renting in the countryside, you will likely need a car so you need to include that cost in your planning.

Once you have decided on the type of accommodations you wish to reserve, we recommend that you read the Tips we've written to help you in your selection:

We believe these Tips will alert you to some characteristics of Italian accommodations that you might not have considered and will help ensure a successful choice.
