Recommended Hotels, B&Bs, and Apartments in Sicily
The hotels, B&Bs, and apartments of Sicily are where we or our friends have stayed or visited, and, in a few cases, have been recommended by other sources we trust. This Sicily collection describes more than 70 properties, nine of which feature multiple apartments. Many are located in cities, and some are agriturism properties in the countryside.
All share the following characteristics: small, few larger than 30 rooms; excellent locations; attractively furnished bedrooms with excellent beds; gracious staff (most owner-managed); breakfast and bar service (coffee, tea, juice, wine, beer, and aperitifs, and sometimes light snacks); private baths in most, if not all, rooms; and excellent value. Many of these hotels charge about 150 euros or less per night for two (a few charge less than 100 euros), while some, especially those in the major cities, are more expensive. Many of the agriturism properties offer dinner by reservation, featuring the products of the estate.
Many smaller hotels do not have an elevator. If this type of access could present a problem for you, make sure to inquire about an elevator or a room on a lower floor when you make your reservation.
These hotels, B&Bs, and apartments are listed by city or town in alphabetical order. The cities with the most listings are:

The Murgo Winery lies in the foothills of Mt. Etna. It produces award-winning wines, including a "bubbly" that was cited in a December 2005 article in the International Herald Tribune about champagne-style wines from Italy. They offer B&B accommodations, small apartments, and meals. For the quality offered, the prices are exceptionally reasonable. In late September 2006, the price was 40 euros per person including breakfast in B&B accommodations or in an apartment. Lunch or dinner, with wine from the estate, is available by reservation for 20 euros per person. The setting is exquisite with views of Mt. Etna in one direction and the Mediterranean in the other. Breakfast on the covered terrace was a delight as was the pool.
